Welcome to the world of Shazie

Chow Time In The Land Of Hornbill : Miri, Sarawak

Who is in the world cares about calories or cholesterols when they are serve with mouth watering delicious food! I love food! 90% of my tour is always about sampling and snacking local delicacies. For me touring will not be complete without devouring local specialty.

My trip to Miri took 1 hour 45 minutes from KLIA, Kuala Lumpur the capital of Malaysia. Miri is an oil town and it is a tourism  city of Sarawak. There are beautiful beaches and the largest in the world limestone moutain, Mulu Mountain is situated here. My brief stay surely rushed me to explore.

Risen just as the sun has started  to show its brightest, I want to try ‘Rojak Sotong’. It is very famous among the Mirian. The taste of the black roasted nutty gravy is so out of this world! We are allowed to  choose the vegetables like kale or tofu to mix with the squid.  The price is affordable to all.

O my O my! There are sooo many food to taste! I am feeling having one and only stomach is a big mistake with so many food to eat.

Sarawak is known for its beautiful and colourful layer cakes. This trip is not complete if we are not visiting the galore. The sweet and sour layer cakes is the most popular among visitors or tourists. Now with the creativity of the local cake makers, we are not only served with traditional flavours but also modern choices like Oreo Layer cake, Strawberry Layer cakes and etcs. I love cakes…but I love layer cake so much more!

Besides the famous layer cake, Laksa Sarawak absolutely heaven. The coconut gravy mixed with spicy shrimp paste called’sambal’ will sting your tongue. The mixed of egg, fishcake, prawn, bean sprouts  and parsley surely will take your heart away. My advice is never leave Sarawak without having a bowl! You will regret for a lifetime..

Noodle! Noodle! Noodle! It is called mee or mi here. Mi Kolok is the sibling to Laksa Sarawak. Laksa Sarawak is soupy but Mi Kolok is kind of dry, it is fried. Mi Kolok will never go to the second place, it is special with its own style. Mi Kolok Daging or meat is up to try if you are here. The Mi Kolok is served with cut chillies, fried onion, vegetable and egg. Yummy! Yummy! Yummy!

To end my day, I tried purple rice and Sarawak Sour Eggplant. Which is a must try in this country. The purple rice contains high in fiber, it is the best choice  for  health. Tummy won’t  be bloated and it helps cleasing the bowel. The sour eggplant is best eaten with the rice. The best place in town to have this dish is Ming Cafe. Ming Cafe is located at the middle of Miri town. Do stop there if you like to know the locals or live like the locals!

When the sunset came, it’s the signed I have to fly back to Kuala Lumpur. I really enjoy my visit and surely will come again. The layer cakes, the ‘Rojak’, the noodles and the eggplant had coloured my experience in the Land of Hornbill. I will never say goodbye, I will come again to explore more of Sarawak.
