I will never forget a week before Christmas Day, I was dreaming to be on top of it each time I see the bridge. I saw some crowd of people wearing blue uniform walking toward the Australian flag. They were walking in groups like a snail. I said to myself, Mr ikan and I will do it one day. It didn’t take long for my wish to come true… Mr ikan bought the ticket online. We were so excited that night that we get the chance to be on top of the historical bridge. He paid $300 dollar for each of us. Wow! Just to climb the bridge we had to pay such a lot of money but Mr ikan was really proud of it. I do agree with him, when it is costly not everybody can afford to climb the bridge and it really made you feel special just like its name The Iconic Sydney Bridge for Australia.
That special day we went to the location, we went there by train. We stopped at Circular Quay and walked along George Street until we reached Argyle Street. From Argyle Street we took the Argyle stairs next to Sake Restaurant. The stairs took us to the top to reach Cumberland Street. From here, we walked again to north along Cumberland Street. BridgeClimb is located on the western side of the street before the road snakes underneath the Bridge.
We showed our ticket to the receptionists. We filled BridgeClimb Declaration Form to ensure we are fit and healthy. Children are allowed to participate from the age of 8. Luckily, we passed all these with rainbow in our eyes!
There are four types of climb, at dawn, twilight, day and night. We chose daytime as we are not comfortable to go home at night time.
After we have registered, we were assigned with a guide. We were equipped with all the outdoor gears needed for the climb. We weren’t allowed to bring any objects like camera or electronic devices. We stored them in the secure locker provided.
After all the short period of training carried out by our guide, we started to climb the bridge. I could see everybody was excited. We could see beautiful sights of Opera house and the city. The sky was crystal blue on that day.
I could see a big smile on Mr ikan, his face was glowing with thrill. We always thought about ” What if we fall?” How could it happens! We were already equipped and safety is their priority. I am was happy to see him happy. When we were on top of the bridge the guide took our picture. I could see some requested to take their favourite angle of snap. I was sooo feeling on top of the world, I never imagine or dream I would be at the highest iconic spot in Australia with Mr ikan. I put my arms around Mr ikan neck and I hold him tight to thanked him for the opportunity which I think will take a long time to come again. I’m happy I hugged him beside the Australian flag. He is my Australia.
I read some people arrange their marriage at the bridge and famous celebrities are climbing the bridge too. The history of the bridge can be seen or read at the Pylon Lookout.
As we finished our climb, the feeling of going up and down was full of excitement. It was historical to be on the bridge and saw the sight. We could feel we were consumed by the views!
All I can say, we climbed the bridge!
